ULTIMO supports EU Mobility Week 2026!

Every year,  European Mobility Week brings together cities, authorities, and innovation initiatives to promote sustainable urban transport. As urban centres across Europe strive to meet ambitious climate targets, public transport remains as the cornerstone of sustainable urban growth. However, addressing changing travel patterns, first-and-last-mile gaps, and suburban connectivity requires scalable, innovative transport solutions.

Paving the Way for Zero-Emission, Shared Automated Fleets

The ULTIMO project is actively demonstrating how driverless, shared, and electric Level 4 (L4) automated vehicle (AV) fleets can be seamlessly integrated into existing public transit networks. Operating across real-world pilot sites in Geneva, Oslo, and Herford, ULTIMO moves beyond isolated AV pilots toward commercially viable, large-scale deployments without on-board safety drivers.

By combining zero-emission automated shuttles with flexible, on-demand fleet management and Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platforms, ULTIMO addresses several key pillars of sustainable mobility:

  • Decarbonization & Traffic Reduction: Replacing low-occupancy private vehicle trips with shared, electric automated transport reduces urban congestion and emissions.
  • Inclusive Accessibility: Designing vehicles, digital booking tools, and passenger interfaces that cater to all citizens, ensuring no passenger group is left behind.
  • Public Transit Integration: Complementing high-capacity rail and bus lines by extending on-demand coverage into lower-density, off-peak, and suburban areas.

Co-Creating the Future of European Transport

Achieving sustainable mobility requires more than technological innovation, it demands close collaboration between public transport operators (PTOs), municipal decision-makers, technology leaders, and citizens.

Throughout EU Mobility Week and beyond, ULTIMO remains committed to sharing open tools, policy insights, and technical frameworks that help European, and indeed global cities build cleaner, safer, and more inclusive mobility ecosystems.
