Geneva hackathon: youth perspective on the future of on-demand transport

In November at the Haute École de Gestion de Genève (Geneva School of Business Administration), Geneva’s public transport authority and ULTIMO project partner, TPG,  joined Open Geneva’s hackathon ‘Smart City Xperience’ to get a young perspective on shaping the future of on-demand transport.

Participants, mainly students from the school’s Sustainable Management program, tackled various questions relating to sustainability. One of the challenges presented to the students was TPG’s task in ULTIMO of designing a user-friendly interface for the self-driving buses of the future.

During the hackathon students put themselves in the perspective of passengers of driverless vehicles and considered various scenarios to think of the best user experience and what kind of interface would work best for passengers.

In the end, the final solution, a redesigned user experience for TPG’s autonomous buses, won the “favorite project” award elected by the entire hackathon community. TPG will take on board the learnings from the hackathon into its ULTIMO work.
