First user experience insights from ULTIMO pilot site in Oslo

ULTIMO project partner Ruter AS has been running its pilot services in the Groruddalen Valley in Oslo and now has some first insights from users, compiled in its User Insights Report.

The report underscores the importance of designing new mobility solutions around people. Drawing on a rich mix of data—from controlled tests and unsupervised trials to accessibility audits and pricing interviews—it offers a detailed look at how users engage with autonomous services in everyday settings.

Key insights explore the entire user journey, from app onboarding and ride booking to pick-up challenges, shared rides, and the ride experience itself. Practical barriers and emotional responses are highlighted, helping to develop future service improvements. The findings also point toward design recommendations that will enhance trust, accessibility, and comfort in autonomous public transport.

As part of ULTIMO’s mission to advance large-scale deployment of autonomous, shared, and on-demand mobility services in Europe, this report gives key insights on what works and where more improvements are needed to keep things moving forward.
